16 signs that you’re a Shopaholic

Whether it be after the holidays with the huge sales going on, shopping for your vacation, or buying clothes for work; if you have a constant urge to buy things…you have a problem. But it’s okay, because the first step is admitting that you have one.

  1. You always find an excuse to shop.

It’s in your blood. Whether or not you have a full closet of clothes is irrelevant. You just ALWAYS want to shop.

2. You try to justify your reasoning.

If it’s a good price, buy it. If they’re buy one get one free, buy it. If you can get free shipping on a $75 purchase but only have $30 shoes in your cart, spend $55 more dollars to save money on shipping costs.

3. Whenever you hang out with friends, the first thing you suggest is the mall.

Because, why not? Sometimes you need other people to support your shopping habits.

4. You shop online during class, meetings, work, etc.

Who cares if you have your final is next week when there’s a two hour flash sale going on right now on your favorite stores website? You can study the power points later anyway.

5. You plan how you’re going to spend your paycheck days before you physically have it.

“I’ve been wanting this pair of boots for two weeks now, and they’re on sale. So if I buy the boots, with the leftover money I’ll have now from the sale savings, I’ll have X amount left to buy the top that totally goes with it.”

6. You follow trends, research, and try your best to stay up to date.

Considering you’re the shopaholic, you should be inclined to being in the know about trends. This can be toxic sometimes. For example, if your favorite blogger has “click through shopping” activated, then you’re screwed.

7. The pie chart on your bank account says 50% or higher is spent on clothing.

Ooops.

8. You drag your significant other to shop with you even though you know they hate it.

My boyfriend always says he doesn’t mind coming with me to shop. But I know he does. I want to spend time with him, but I need to shop at the same time. So, it’s a win-win…

…Right?

9. No matter what you’re doing, you always get an urge to spend.

If you’re watching TV, listening to music, or going to the gym, there’s always SOMETHING that triggers inside you that immediately speaks to you and says, “Wow, I’d rather be at the mall right now.” (especially when you’re working out)

10. Working retail is the worst thing for you and for your bank account.

Coming into work and seeing all of the new products on the floor and having to resist buying them is probably the hardest thing to ever do. If you do actually end up resisting, you have quite some will power there. Teach me, please.

11. You have to leave your credit card at home to reframe from buying.

If you go to Target to buy a necessity, maybe like shampoo or conditioner, you know you’ll always end up buying everything else in the store and completely forget what you even came to Target for in the first place.

12. Your compliments to other people’s outfits are you asking where the person purchased the outfit.

You then proceed to go to that store or look it up online.

13. Advertising always gets the best of you.

“Up to 70% off”
“Buy one, get one”
“Free shipping with a $50 purchase”
“Last chance!”

This goes back to the point of ALWAYS justifying your reasoning. What’s the point in saving if you just end up spending more? Don’t ask me.

14. No matter how many clothes you have, it’s never enough.

It’s just not.

15. You wear one thing and can easily get sick of it.

There’s always a constant need for newness! No matter what.

16. You just can’t win and will never be able to resist!

Just accept us for who we are. We try our hardest. (Not really!)
