Welcome to “Fall” (trends, NYFW, and more)

Everyone, welcome to “fall”. Where there are barely any leaves falling from the few trees in Manhattan, where I’m still dressing like I went on vacation in July, and where I’m still sweating when I try to hail down a taxi. Tell me why when I went to get my first PSL of the season that I could barely hold the drink without getting hot flashes?

Anyway, this post is dedicated to the lovely season that is fall. From the fashion on the street to the fashion that went down the runways at NYFW, my own outfits and inspirations, and random clippings from Pinterest.

As I have worked a couple of shows as a volunteer, stalked WWD and bloggers, and just observing street fashion, I noticed a few trends that are starting to arise…

1.) Wide Legged Trousers — Seen on the runways of Lie Sangbong, Rachel Zoe, Givenchy, and Alexander Wang, this seemed to be something that can will definitely bring on change. We are all so used to the tight fitting…well, everything, that we can’t take a moment to ask ourselves if we are really comfortable in what we are wearing! The trousers offer a loose, comfortable, yet flattering touch to every outfit whether it be going to work or just running errands. Pair the trousers with heels and a statement necklace, or with a pair of sneakers and a messy bun.

2.) The high waisted skirt — Yes, yes, YES! Bloggers like WeWoreWhat and Something Navy have been seen sporting these chic skirts on their way to NYFW events and presentations and styled them plenty of different ways.

Ways to style the skirt: A denim high waisted skirt with a graphic tee and sneaks, a faux suede (ONLY FAUX, thank you) high waisted skirt with a loose blouse and lace up booties.

3.) Body con dress/skirt with midi length — The length of these dresses are so extremely flattering and versatile. Being 5’7″, it’s very hard to find dresses, skirts, and rompers that fit me length wise because I feel as though everything is tailored towards girls that are 5’2″. So, these dresses and skirts work very well with not only my body type, but several others. I love this trend because you can style them up and down, day by night. As a girl who is running back and forth daily, trust me, it saves a lot of time.

Now let’s move to my wardrobe essentials and new fall purchases.

Recently, I bought a new pair of Nike Roshes with the original mesh in gray with black lining. Let me tell you, Roshes are the most comfortable sneakers I have ever purchased. I’ve been wearing them with ripped skinny and boyfriend jeans and a loose fitting t-shirt. Sometimes I put on a piece of statement jewelry like a gold chain to top off the look. The Roshes even go with the body con or trousers as mentioned before.

Next, I bought cropped sleeveless turtleneck sweaters. These sweaters are so simple, so they are extremely easy to style and look adorable regardless of the outfit you choose to wear. Pair the sweater with high waisted pants and ankle booties or the high waisted skirt as mentioned above with knee high boots with thi-high socks to complete the outfit.

Lastly, I had to buy new booties. I made sure to buy rain booties from Steve Madden. I bought the ankle length because knee high rain boots aren’t that comfortable at times. I also bought two pairs of open toed booties, one from Sam Edelman and the other from Lucky. The Sam Edelman pair is all black, with faux snakeskin on the heel and the Lucky pair is two toned with biege and black faux (again, ONLY FAUX 🙂 ) leather. These are great for a night out or even to wear to class. Pair with loose fitting boyfriends or a t-shirt dress (while you can).

Look out for these colors when shopping for your fall wardrobe:

  1. Hunter Green
  2. Marsala
  3. Dark Gray
  4. Dark Navy
  5. Rose
  6. Amethyst
